අක්ෂර චන, අක්ෂරචුචු, n. writer, clerk, ලියන්නා.

අතර, conj. or post. in the interval, while, as ඔහු ලියන අතර, while he writes; ඒ අතර (see අතරතුරේ).

අතීත, a. past, gone; gram. preterite; පහුවුණ.

අතීත කාලය, අතීතය, n. past time; the past tense, the preterite.

අන්ත්‍ය කර්‍ම, අන්ත්‍ය කෘත්‍ය, අන්ත්‍ය ක්‍රියා, n. pl. the last acts, funeral rites, obsequies, අවමංගල්‍ය චාරිත්‍ර.

අයු, a. past, preterite, පසුගිය, අතීත.

අවතාරය, n. apparition, ghost, fantasm, spectre, sprite, manes, ප්‍රේතයා; in ancient usage: descent or incarnation of a god, as of Vishnu in the form of a fish, tortoise, boar, man-lion (නෘසිංහ), dwarf, the two Rāmas, Krishna, Buddha, Kalki &c.; also for අවතරණය.

ඇත, ඇති, v. There is or are; there is or are enough, sufficit; used also as a verb aux.: with the present, to express the future; with the preterite, to express the perfect with diffidence; with the infinitive to express probability, as ඔහු යන්ට ඇත, He must have — has probably—gone.

ඉෂ්ට දේවතාවා, n. favourite god, tutelary deity, ප්‍රිය or කැමති දේවතාව‍: see ඉටු දෙවියා.

උත්තර ක්‍රීයා, n. pl. funeral rites, භුමදාන කෘත්‍ය.

උපද්‍රවාරක්ෂකයා, n. (ආර:), protector from injury or loss; underwriter, E. S.
