අ නද, අ නඳ, n. E. of අනන්‍ද: joy, ර්‍ප්‍රතිය; name of a celebrated disciple of Buddha.

අ නාථ පිණ්ඩක, අ නාථ පිණ්ඩික, a. giving alms to the destitute, charitable, දන්දෙන; ep. of a B. noble who was a contemporary of Buddha.

අ පන්නකය, n. the first descent or incarnation of Buddha.

අ මර පුර නිකාය, n. Amarapura sect of Buddhists introduced into Ceylon about A. D. 1800 by Ambagahapitiya priest; the priests of this sect are in communion with priests of Burma.

අ වය වාදි, a. asserting one principle, monistic; ep. of Buddha. E. S.

අංගී රස, අංගු රස, අඟුරස, n. (අංග body, රස ray), having rays issuing from the body: ap. of Buddha or other sage; the planet Jupiter, බෘහස්පති.

අකු ධාතුව, n. clavicle relic (of Buddha).

අග සව්, n. chief disciple, ප්‍රධාන ගෝලයා: ap. of Buddha's two chief disciples සැරියුත්and මුගලන්, who acted as his recorders.

අග්‍ර පුද්ගල, a. eminent, උත්තමයෙක්වූ; n. the eminent one, උත්තමයා; ap. of Buddha.

අග්‍ර ශ්‍රාවකයා, n. chief pupil or disciple, sp. of Buddha. See අගසව්.

අජ පාල, n. lit. goat or sheep protecting: name of a banyan tree under which Buddha sat.

අට පිරිස, n. the eight retinues that attended Buddha, viz. military or royal persons, brahmayas, regents of planets, B. priests, Chāturmahārājika gods (the four imperial gods), the Tautisā gods, Māra deities and Brahma: ක්ෂත්‍රියයෝ or රජවරු, බ්‍රහ්මයෝ, ග්‍රහපතියෝ, ශ්‍රම ණයෝ, චාතුර්‍මහාරාජික දෙවිවරු, තව්තිසා දෙවි වරු, මාර දේවතාවරු, මහාබ්‍රහ්මයා. අට විසි පිරිත්, n. pl. the twenty-eight incantations or recitations of the attributes of twenty-eight Buddhas for protection or escape from demons or disease.
